1883-1885 Postman's cottage Nuenen

Thanks to the Van Gogh family and their lively correspondence, we know quite a bit about the Van Gogh family, and son Vincent. World famous are Vincent's letters to Theo. Father Van Gogh also wrote letters, and so did sister Willemien.

These letters were taken by Van Gogh's family to the "letterman's house" in Nuenen. Or this one came to pick up the mail, with a dog cart. This 'post office' can be found within walking distance of the parsonage in Nuenen.

Vincent not only sends letters. Drawings and canvases he sends to Theo, or to painter friends such as Van Rappard, are also sent and received through this address. In letter 501 of Wednesday, May 6, 1885, we read that that day Vincent brings the canvas The Potato Eaters, in a box, to the letterman's house, to be sent to Theo in Paris.
